एवं स गुणसम्पन्नो धर्मार्थकुशलो नृप: । आसीदू भरतवंशस्य गोप्ता सर्वजनस्य च,इस प्रकार उत्तम गुणोंसे सम्पन्न एवं धर्म और अर्थके साधनमें कुशल राजा शान्तनु भरतवंशका पालन तथा सम्पूर्ण प्रजाकी रक्षा करते थे
evaṃ sa guṇasampanno dharmārthakuśalo nṛpaḥ | āsīd bharatavaṃśasya goptā sarvajanasya ca ||
وهكذا كان الملكُ شانتانو—المكتملُ بالخصالِ الحميدة، الحاذقُ بوسائلِ الدَّرْمَا والأَرْثَا—حاميَ سلالةِ بهاراتا، وراعيَ شعبِه أجمعين.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
An ideal king is defined by guṇa (virtue) and competence in both dharma (righteous order) and artha (practical governance and prosperity), expressed through protection of lineage and subjects.
Vaiśampāyana describes King Śāntanu’s character and rule, portraying him as a capable and virtuous guardian of the Bharata line and of the entire populace.
