tvameva bhartā hartā ca bhoktā dātā janārdana hantumarhasi tasmāttvaṃ dānavāndānavārdana
Suta Goswami (narrating an embedded supplication addressed to Janardana/Vishnu)
It affirms the one Lord’s sovereignty over sustaining, withdrawing, granting, and governing the fruits of karma—core to Linga worship where the devotee approaches Pati as the ultimate dispenser of grace and protection of dharma.
Though addressed to Janārdana, the verse mirrors Shiva-tattva in Shaiva Siddhanta: Pati alone presides over creation’s functions and over the bestowal of bhoga and moksha; this supports the Purana’s broader current of Hari-Hara non-duality within the supreme Lordhead.
The verse highlights śaraṇāgati (taking refuge) and protective invocation—an inner limb of Pāśupata-aligned devotion where the pashu seeks Pati’s intervention to remove pasha-like hostile forces obstructing dharma and sādhana.
