Haristuti-saṅgraha: Devatā–Ṛṣi Praṇāma, Nāma-māhātmya, and Vairāgya from Deha-āsakti
indrādahaṃ daśaguṇaiḥ sarvadā nyūna ukto na jani tvāṃ sarvadā hyaprameya / tathāpi māṃ pāhi jagadguro tvaṃ dattvā divyaṃ hyāyatanaṃ ca viṣṇo
Garuda (Vinata-putra) addressing Lord Vishnu
Concept: Humility before the immeasurable Lord and reliance on His grace for divine abode.
Vedantic Theme: Īśvara’s ananta/aprameya nature; jīva’s aṇutva and dependence (śeṣatva) culminating in śaraṇāgati.
Application: Cultivate humility, acknowledge limits of intellect, and pray for protection and God-centered living; orient life toward remembrance and surrender rather than status comparison.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: karuna
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 3.7.8 (pāda-padma and pāda-rajas smaraṇa); Garuda Purana 3.7.9 (deficiency under guṇas; plea for protection)
This verse models humility: even a mighty being compares himself as lesser than Indra and admits he cannot measure the Lord, showing that devotion and surrender—not status—invite divine protection.
The speaker explicitly seeks a “divine abode” from Viṣṇu, indicating that divine grace (anugraha) and the Lord’s guardianship are central to attaining a higher realm beyond ordinary heavenly rank.
Cultivate sincere devotion with self-awareness: acknowledge limits of ego and knowledge, and align actions with dharma while praying for guidance and protection from the Divine.
