FAQs

This verse frames Gaṅgā as manifesting in multiple recognized forms/names, supporting Purāṇic tirtha-traditions where one sacred reality is approached through different river-forms and local sanctities.

Indirectly: by highlighting Gaṅgā’s sanctifying manifestations, it points to the Purāṇic idea that contact with sacred tīrthas supports purification and auspicious rites, themes often connected with post-death merit and ritual efficacy in the Garuḍa Purāṇa.

Treat tīrthas and sacred waters with reverence, and when performing rites (snāna, tarpaṇa, śrāddha), remember that one sanctifying principle may be honored through different local forms and names.
