Lord Vishnu (in instruction to Garuda/Vinata-putra, within the Garuda Purana dialogue frame)
Concept: Auspicious fortune (lakshmi) is stabilized through devoted worship and wearing a consecrated Lakshmi-thread as a vow/marker of grace.
Vedantic Theme: Ishvara-anugraha (divine grace) accessed through upasana; prosperity as a dharmic support rather than an end in itself.
Application: Perform Lakshmi-puja with sincerity; adopt a simple vrata-marker (Lakshmi-sutra) as a daily reminder of gratitude, restraint, and auspicious conduct.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 3.28 (Lakshmi/vrata-oriented instructions in the same section)
This verse presents the Lakshmi-sutra (a consecrated thread worn on the neck) as a protective and auspicious observance linked with proper Lakshmi worship, intended to bring stability, prosperity, and freedom from inauspiciousness.
By explicitly pairing Mahalakshmi with Ādyalakshmi and prescribing correct worship plus a wearable sacred thread, the verse frames prosperity as a dharmic outcome of devotion and ritual rectitude, countering misfortune through sacred observance.
Perform sincere Lakshmi worship with ethical conduct and discipline, and if following tradition, wear a properly consecrated Lakshmi-thread as a reminder of dharma, gratitude, and responsible prosperity.
