Lord Vishnu (in instruction to Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Concept: Sat-saṅga generates jñāna; jñāna yields mokṣa—yet only for the qualified; the undisciplined invert the benefit.
Vedantic Theme: Adhikāritva and sādhana-catuṣṭaya: purification, śama-dama, and viveka enable jñāna-niṣṭhā leading to liberation.
Application: Cultivate discipline (yama-niyama), humility, and steady practice; approach holy company with service and receptivity; avoid casual, cynical, or indulgent participation that hardens ego.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 3.26.41 (tīrtha → sat-saṅga); Garuda Purana 3.26.43 (rejecting mechanical mokṣa claims)
This verse states that satsanga is the doorway to jñāna (true spiritual knowledge), and that jñāna in turn culminates in mokṣa; thus, holy company is presented as a primary catalyst for liberation.
It outlines a clear sequence: virtuous association → awakening of knowledge → liberation, while warning that without inner discipline (ayogin), the same exposure can produce contrary outcomes such as confusion, pride, or further bondage.
Choose uplifting company, study with teachers rooted in dharma, and cultivate basic self-discipline (truthfulness, restraint, steadiness); then learning becomes transformative rather than merely informational.
