The Universal Form (Virāṭ-Puruṣa): The Lord’s Entry into the Elements, the Devas, and the Origin of Varṇāśrama
पादावस्य विनिर्भिन्नौ लोकेशो विष्णुराविशत् । गत्या स्वांशेन पुरुषो यया प्राप्यं प्रपद्यते ॥ २२ ॥
pādāv asya vinirbhinnau lokeśo viṣṇur āviśat gatyā svāṁśena puruṣo yayā prāpyaṁ prapadyate
ثمّ لما تجلّت ساقا الهيئة الكونية العظمى منفصلتين، دخل فيهما الإله المسمّى «فيشنو» (وليس الشخصية الإلهية العليا) بجزء من قوة الحركة، فصار الكائن الحي قادراً على السير إلى مقصده.
This verse explains that as the Universal Form’s feet manifest, Lord Viṣṇu enters them as the divine principle of movement, indicating that cosmic functions operate because the Supreme Person empowers them.
Because the feet represent movement and progression; the Bhagavatam teaches that even basic capacities like locomotion exist by Viṣṇu’s indwelling empowerment within the cosmic body.
It can be taken as a reminder to direct one’s actions and life-trajectory toward the highest aim—devotion and God-realization—rather than letting movement become merely restless activity.
