The Śoṇitapura Battle and the Jvara Episode
avadhyo ’yaṁ mamāpy eṣa vairocani-suto ’suraḥ prahrādāya varo datto na vadhyo me tavānvayaḥ
Śiva explains that Bāṇa is Prahlāda’s descendant, and Śiva had previously granted Prahlāda a boon that his lineage would not be slain by Śiva; thus he must honor that promise.
It shows the lasting potency of blessings given to great devotees: divine promises protect and shape the destiny of their descendants, even amid conflict.
It teaches integrity—keeping one’s word even under pressure—and highlights the spiritual principle that honoring commitments is a form of dharma.
