gauríḥ mimā́ya salilā́ni tákṣaty ékapadī dvipádī sā́ cátuṣpadī | aṣṭā́padī návapadī babhūvúṣī sahásrākṣarā́ bhúvanasya paṅktís tasyā́ḥ samudrā́ ádhi ví kṣaranti
The Bright One hath measured out the waters; she, the Artificer, doth fashion them: one-footed, two-footed, she—four-footed; eight-footed, nine-footed hath she become, a thousand-syllabled Paṅkti of the world. Upon her the oceans, spreading, pour themselves abroad.
Rishi: Traditionally Atharvanic/Angirasa attribution for speculative hymns; specific r̥ṣi assignment for 9.10 requires anukramaṇī consultation.
Devata: Vāc / Virāj (cosmic Speech as creatrix)
Chandas: Mixed/expanded metrical speculation (pāda-enumeration); broadly triṣṭubh-jagatī style cadence with metrical self-reference
