Instructions for the Western Search Party
विश्वे देवाश्च मरूतो वसवश्च दिवौकसः।आगम्य पश्चिमां सन्ध्यां मेरुमुत्तमपर्वतम्।।4.42.41।।आदित्यमुपतिष्ठन्ति तैश्च सूर्योऽभिपूजितः।अदृश्यस्सर्वभूतानामस्तं गच्छतिपर्वतम्।।4.42.42।।
ādityam upatiṣṭhanti taiś ca sūryo 'bhipūjitaḥ |
adṛśyaḥ sarvabhūtānām astaṃ gacchati parvatam || 4.42.42 ||
They attend upon Āditya; and the Sun, duly worshipped by them, goes to the mountain of setting and becomes invisible to all beings.
'Crossing ten thousand yojanas swiftly in half a moment, the Sun touches the mount behind which he sets.
Dharma is the maintenance of order through rightful honoring: worship is linked with the regulated movement of the cosmos, teaching that respect for sacred principles sustains stability.
Sugrīva continues describing the western region and the sunset phenomenon as part of the searchers’ itinerary-knowledge.
