Lakshmana Enters Kishkindha: Anger, Tara’s Mediation, and Sugriva Encountered
इत्येवमुक्त्वा वचनं महार्थंसा वानरी लक्ष्मणमप्रमेयम्।पुन स्सखेदं मदविह्वलञ्चभर्तुर्हितं वाक्यमिदं बभाषे।।।।
ity ēvam uktvā vacanaṁ mahārthaṁ sā vānarī lakṣmaṇam apramēyam |
punaḥ sakhēdaṁ madavihvalaṁ ca bhartuḥ hitaṁ vākyam idaṁ babhāṣē ||
Having thus spoken weighty words to Lakṣmaṇa of unfathomable might, that Vanara queen—playful yet unsteady with intoxication—again spoke this counsel for her husband’s welfare.
Overcome by drunkenness, Tara once again spoke to Lakshmana of unfathomable prowess, in a meaningful way keeping in view the welfare of her playful and drunken lord:
Dharma includes speaking timely, beneficial counsel (hita-vacana), even amid personal or courtly distractions, to protect rightful obligations and relationships.
The narrator marks a transition: after her initial reasoning, Tārā continues advising Lakṣmaṇa with Sugrīva’s welfare in view.
Hita-bhāṣitā (beneficial speech)—Tārā’s ability to counsel responsibly in a tense moment.
