Lakshmana Enters Kishkindha: Anger, Tara’s Mediation, and Sugriva Encountered
किं पश्यसि कुमारस्य रोषस्थानमनिन्दिते।न खल्वकारणे कोपमाहरेन्नरसत्तमः।।।।
kiṃ paśyasi kumārasya roṣasthānam anindite | na khalv akāraṇe kopam āharen narasattamaḥ ||
“O blameless lady, what do you see as the cause of the prince’s anger? A truly noble man does not give rise to wrath without reason.”
'O blemishless Tara ! What is the cause of young Lakshmana's anger? Great men do not display anger without reason.
Anger should be reasoned and just: in dharmic conduct, even strong emotion is anchored in cause and moral purpose, not impulse.
Sugrīva asks Tārā to diagnose why Lakṣmaṇa is angry, assuming a noble person’s anger has a just basis.
Nobility (āryatā): the ideal that the best of men are not capricious in emotion.
