Tara’s Lament and Counsel after Vali’s Fall
आव्रजन्ती ददर्शाथ पतिं निपतितं भुवि।हन्तारं दानवेन्द्राणां समरेष्वनिवर्तिनम्।।
āvrajantī dadarśātha patiṃ nipatitaṃ bhuvi | hantāraṃ dānavendrāṇāṃ samareṣv anivartinam ||
As she came near, she then saw her husband fallen on the ground—one who had slain the foremost of Dānavas and never turned back in battle.
As she was nearing (the spot) she saw her husband, a great conqueror of monkeys who never retreated from the battle, mortally hit and fallen on the ground.
The limits of worldly prowess: even the steadfast hero falls—prompting reflection on dharma beyond mere strength.
Tārā arrives and witnesses Vāli lying fallen, remembered for fearless victories.
Vāli’s valor (śaurya) and steadfastness (anivartitā) in battle.
