भरतागमनशङ्कानिवारणम् / Dispelling Suspicion about Bharata’s Arrival

प्राप्तकालं यदेषोऽस्मान्भरतो द्रष्टुमिच्छति।अस्मासु मनसाऽप्येष नाप्रियं किञ्चिदाचरेत्।।।।
prāpta-kālaṃ yad eṣo 'smān bharato draṣṭum icchati | asmāsu manasā 'py eṣa nāpriyaṃ kiñcid ācaret ||
It is timely that Bharata wishes to see us; even in thought he would do nothing at all that is harmful or displeasing toward us.
Why are you suspicious of Bharata? Has he done anything disagreeable to you any time in the past?
Dharma includes guarding one’s mind from unjust suspicion; Rama insists that a righteous person does not even intend harm.
Rama reassures Lakshmana that Bharata’s visit is appropriate and harmless in intention and action.
Bharata’s purity of intention (śuddha-saṅkalpa) and Rama’s commitment to truthful judgment.
