Arjuna Vishada Yoga

Bhagavad Gita 19 illustration

sa ghoṣo dhārtarāṣṭrāṇāṁ hṛdayāni vyadārayat | nabhaś ca pṛthivīṁ caiva tumulo 'bhyanunādayan || 1.19 ||

That tumultuous sound tore through the hearts of Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s sons, and resounded through the sky and the earth alike.

“That tumultuous sound seemed to rend the hearts of the Dhārtarāṣṭras, and it resounded through sky and earth.”

FAQs

The verse depicts how overwhelming stimuli can destabilize confidence—suggesting an inward “shock” or doubt in those who hear it.

No direct metaphysical teaching is asserted. Symbolically, it can be read as the disruptive clarity of truth or conscience that unsettles entrenched intentions.

It marks the emotional impact of the Pāṇḍava-side signals on the opposing camp, heightening narrative tension immediately before Arjuna’s crisis unfolds.

Illustrates how collective signals—public opinion, institutional announcements, or decisive data—can rapidly shift morale and perceived certainty.
