Sage Parāśara (narrating to Maitreya)
It functions as a narrative omen—an outward sign that a significant movement or event (often royal or martial) is approaching, prompting the sages to inquire and reveal the next development in the genealogy-driven story.
Here he uses narrative cues (a visible portent and the sages’ inquiry) to transition into the next episode, a common Purāṇic method where dharma and cosmic order are shown through unfolding events rather than abstract definition alone.
Even when Vishnu is not named in a verse, the Purana frames history and lineage as operating under Vishnu’s sovereign order—events arise in sequence as part of the divinely sustained moral and cosmic governance.
