Verse 12
Mundaka
परीक्ष्य लोकान् कर्मचितान् ब्राह्मणो निर्वेदमायान्नास्त्यकृतः कृतेन ।
तद्विज्ञानार्थं स गुरुमेवाभिगच्छेत् समित्पाणिः श्रोत्रियं ब्रह्मनिष्ठम् ॥१२॥
परीक्ष्य । लोकान् । कर्म-चितान् । ब्राह्मणः । निर्वेदम् । आयात् । न । अस्ति । अकृतः । कृतेन ।
तत्-विज्ञान-अर्थम् । सः । गुरुम् । एव । अभिगच्छेत् । समित्-पाणिः । श्रोत्रियम् । ब्रह्म-निष्ठम् ॥१२॥
parīkṣya lokān karmacitān brāhmaṇo nirvedam āyān nāsty akṛtaḥ kṛtena |
tadvijñānārthaṃ sa gurum evābhigacchet samitpāṇiḥ śrotriyaṃ brahmaniṣṭham ||12||
既已省察由业行所致之诸世界，婆罗门求道者当生厌离：不作之境（akṛta）非由所作之业（kṛta）而得。为求知彼真实，当唯独趋近师长，手执供火之薪——通达圣传（śrotriya）而安住于梵（brahmaniṣṭha）者。
Having examined the worlds attained through action, the brāhmaṇa (seeker) should arrive at dispassion: the unmade (akṛta) is not (attained) by what is made/done (kṛta). For the sake of knowing That, he should approach a teacher alone, with fuel in hand—one who is learned in the tradition (śrotriya) and established in Brahman (brahmaniṣṭha).
