ṛṣaya ūcuḥ āśramo'yaṃ suvikhyāto bhūyācchakra mahītale | nāmnāsmākaṃ tathā nṛṇāṃ sarvapātakanāśanaḥ
Ṛṣis (Sages)
Tirtha: Ṛṣi-nāmāśrama-tīrtha (āśrama named after the sages)
Type: kshetra
Scene: The sages request a boon: let their āśrama become famous on earth and, bearing their name, become a destroyer of all sins for humanity; Indra listens approvingly by the lotus lake.
A sanctified place gains enduring power through tapas and the sages’ presence, becoming a public refuge for purification.
The sages’ āśrama-tīrtha in Nāgara Khaṇḍa, intended to become famed and sin-destroying by their name.
Implicitly, visiting/associating with the āśrama is presented as sin-destroying; no specific rite is stated in this verse.
