It highlights worldly insufficiency even amid great status—lordship without true support—prompting discernment (viveka) and careful inquiry before major life decisions, a theme consistent with Shaiva emphasis on detachment and reliance on Pati (Shiva) rather than mere social ties.
The verse sits in narrative counsel around family and marriage context; it indirectly contrasts worldly lineage with Shiva’s transcendence. In Saguna Shiva worship, devotees learn to see Shiva as the true refuge beyond clan and worldly security, which the Linga symbolizes as the steadfast, non-worldly support.
A practical takeaway is mindful inquiry and sankalpa before vows: approach major commitments with prayer to Shiva, recitation of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), and inner reflection on non-attachment, rather than acting only from social prestige.
