确实,当他尚是幼童时,便与母亲住在舅父家中。依天意之流转,他成为优波摩纽,亦名为毗耶伽罗足;然而外在境况却贫困不堪。

Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Paśupatinātha
Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga episode; the verse sets the karmic-social backdrop (daridratā) that will later motivate Śiva-bhakti and divine grace.
Significance: Teaches that external poverty can function as a providential condition (daivataḥ) leading the paśu toward Śiva’s anugraha.
It frames worldly lack (daridratā) as an outer condition while the soul’s divine unfolding continues—suggesting that Shiva’s grace can mature bhakti even amid hardship, turning karma into a doorway to spiritual ripening.
By introducing Upamanyu/Vyāghrapāda in a context of struggle, the text prepares the listener for Saguna Shiva worship where devotion, vows, and disciplined practice (often centered on the Linga) transform the devotee’s life, regardless of external status.
The verse implies steadiness in bhakti despite adversity—supporting practices commonly praised in the Shiva Purana such as japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), and simple, sincere Linga-pūjā even with minimal resources.
