Nabhaga-Upākhyāna: The Account of Nabhaga and Shiva-Jñāna
नभग उवाच । हे तात भ्रातरः सर्वे त्यक्त्वा मां न्यभजंश्च ते । पठनार्थं गतश्चाहं ब्रह्मचारी गुरोः कुले
nabhaga uvāca | he tāta bhrātaraḥ sarve tyaktvā māṃ nyabhajaṃśca te | paṭhanārthaṃ gataścāhaṃ brahmacārī guroḥ kule
那婆伽说道:“慈爱的父亲啊,我的诸兄弟弃我不顾,自行分取了家业。我以梵行学生之身,为求学业,前往师长家中居住。”
Nabhaga
Tattva Level: pashu
The verse highlights dharmic resilience: when worldly support fails, the seeker turns to disciplined learning and brahmacarya—purifying conduct that prepares the soul (paśu) to receive Shiva’s grace (Pati’s anugraha).
Though the Linga is not named here, the narrative sets the inner foundation for Saguna Shiva worship—self-restraint, humility, and guru-guided study—without which external ritual becomes fruitless.
The implied practice is brahmacarya with guru-sevā and svādhyāya; a Shaiva takeaway is to pair daily study with japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) in a disciplined routine.
