Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Significance: Emphasizes sādhana-discipline (japa, tarpaṇa, prāṇāyāma) as purification of the bound soul (paśu) and receptivity to Śiva’s grace.
Mantra: (Implied) oṃ namaḥ śivāya
Type: panchakshara
Role: liberating
It teaches disciplined sādhana: mantra-japa (108), purification through tarpaṇa, and inner steadiness through prāṇāyāma—aligning body, speech, and mind for Shiva-bhakti and liberation.
These acts are preparatory and supportive rites for Saguna Shiva worship—purifying the worshipper before offering devotion to Shiva as Linga, and stabilizing attention so the mantra and pūjā become effective.
Perform 108 mantra-japa, then tarpaṇa twelve times, followed by proper ācamana and the threefold prāṇāyāma (inhalation, retention, exhalation) as a meditative purification sequence.
