प्रणवमहिमा — The Greatness of the Praṇava (Om) as Śiva
यो गुरुः स शिवः प्रोक्तो यश्शिवस्स गुरुः स्मृतः । इति निश्चित्य मनसा स्वविचारं निवेदयेत्
yo guruḥ sa śivaḥ prokto yaśśivassa guruḥ smṛtaḥ | iti niścitya manasā svavicāraṃ nivedayet
经宣示:“上师即是湿婆”,亦复如是:“湿婆被忆念为上师。”既于心中坚决确定此义,当将自身内在的省察与思惟,奉呈于那位上师—湿婆。
Lord Shiva (teaching in the Kailasa Samhita discourse)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Sthala Purana: Not a site-specific Jyotirliṅga passage; it establishes the Siddhāntic axiom that Śiva is the supreme Guru who grants saving knowledge (jñāna) through the human guru as His embodiment.
Significance: Frames pilgrimage as secondary to guru-upadeśa: liberation arises from Śiva’s grace mediated through the guru and right inquiry.
It establishes Guru-tattva as Śiva-tattva: the realized Guru is to be approached as the very presence of Pati (Śiva), and the seeker should offer their doubts and inner inquiry for guidance toward liberation.
In Saguna worship, the devotee approaches Śiva through sacred forms like the Liṅga and through the living channel of grace—the Guru—who reveals Śiva’s presence and correct method of devotion and understanding.
A practical takeaway is Guru-bhakti with humble self-inquiry: mentally affirm “Guru is Śiva,” then present one’s questions in japa/meditation (e.g., with the Pañcākṣarī ‘Om Namaḥ Śivāya’) while seeking instruction and correction.
