Worship of Gajānana and the Procedure of Aupāsana-Homa
मंत्रैरंगानि संस्पृश्य मूर्द्धादिचरणान्ततः । ईशानाद्यैः पञ्चमंत्रै शिर आरभ्य सर्वतः
maṃtrairaṃgāni saṃspṛśya mūrddhādicaraṇāntataḥ | īśānādyaiḥ pañcamaṃtrai śira ārabhya sarvataḥ
以真言触按诸肢体——自头顶至足端——当以始于“伊沙那”(Īśāna)之五真言,从头起遍行作支分安置(aṅga-nyāsa),使全身为礼敬湿婆而得以加持净化。

Significance: Internalizes pilgrimage: the body becomes a kṣetra through pañcabrahma-mantras; consecration prepares the paśu for Śiva-ārādhana and eventual liberation.

It teaches that the body is to be sanctified as Śiva’s temple: by mantra-touch (nyāsa), the worshipper aligns the limited self (paśu) toward the Lord (Pati), making the whole person fit for devotion and inner concentration.
Before approaching the Liṅga (Saguna Śiva as an accessible form), the devotee performs aṅga-nyāsa to invoke Śiva’s presence into one’s own limbs, so the external pūjā is supported by internal consecration and reverence.
Aṅga-nyāsa/karanyāsa: touch the head and other limbs while reciting the five mantras beginning with Īśāna, mentally pervading the body with Śiva-mantra before japa, abhiṣeka, or Liṅga-pūjā.
