Vāmadeva-mata: Rahasya-upadeśa
The Esoteric Teaching of Vāmadeva’s Doctrine
श्रद्धालुषु च शिष्येषु त्वादृशा गुरवस्सदा । स्निग्धभावा इतीदं नो दर्शितम्भवताधुना
śraddhāluṣu ca śiṣyeṣu tvādṛśā guravassadā | snigdhabhāvā itīdaṃ no darśitambhavatādhunā
对于具足信心的弟子,如您这般的上师恒常怀抱慈爱。诚然,如今您已向我们显明此事——您对我们的温柔眷顾与恩泽。
A disciple/devotee addressing the guru (within the Kailāsa philosophical dialogue tradition)
Tattva Level: pashu
It affirms that śraddhā (faith) in the disciple evokes the guru’s anugraha (grace). In Shaiva Siddhanta, such grace is essential for loosening pāśa (bondage) and turning the seeker toward Pati—Lord Shiva.
Linga-worship and Saguna Shiva devotion are traditionally learned through right instruction and transmitted practice. The verse highlights that a compassionate guru guides faithful disciples into correct Shaiva upāsanā—purity of attitude, mantra, and ritual orientation toward Shiva.
The takeaway is guru-sevā and śraddhā: receive mantra and discipline with humility. Practically, this supports steady japa of the Panchākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and consistent Shaiva observances (e.g., bhasma/Tripuṇḍra and Rudrākṣa) as taught by the guru.
