Sugriva’s Reassurance and Lakshmana’s Counsel
tasmin pratigṛhīte tu vākye harigaṇeśvaraḥ | lakṣmaṇāt sumahat trāsaṃ vastraṃ klinnam ivātyajat ||
'If I have committed even a little transgression in my faith in Rama or affection for him and exceeded the time limit, my mistakes are to be excused as one would pardons a servant. No one is flawless in the world.'
Dharma here is expressed as restoration of trust through accepted speech—when sincere words are received, fear and hostility should be relinquished.
After conciliatory words are accepted (in context, mediation around Sugrīva and Lakṣmaṇa), Sugrīva’s anxiety about Lakṣmaṇa subsides.
Sugrīva’s responsiveness and humility—he is able to let go of fear once reconciliation is assured.
