Lakshmana Enters Kishkindha: Anger, Tara’s Mediation, and Sugriva Encountered
त्वया सान्त्वैरुपक्रान्तं प्रसन्नेन्द्रियमानसम्।ततः कमलपत्राक्षं द्रक्ष्याम्यहमरिन्दमम्।।।।
tvayā sāntvair upakrāntaṃ prasannendriya-mānasam | tataḥ kamalapatrākṣaṃ drakṣyāmy aham arindamam ||
你先以抚慰之语上前,使其心意与诸根欢悦安宁;随后我将得见那莲瓣之眼、降伏仇敌者——罗什曼那。
'Start talking to him with pleasing words and make him happy. Then I shall see Lakshmana with eyes like lotus-petals, a subduer of enemies'.
Conflict should be addressed first through sāntva (conciliation): calming speech and respectful approach are presented as the dhārmic means to reduce anger and restore right action.
Sugrīva, fearing Lakṣmaṇa’s anger over delay in helping Rāma, directs that Lakṣmaṇa be approached with soothing words before a direct meeting.
Diplomacy and self-restraint—prioritizing peaceful speech to prevent escalation and to return to duty.
