वालिवधोत्तरशोकः
Sugriva’s Remorse and Tara’s Lament after Vali’s Death
त्वं वेत्थ यावद्वनिताविहीनःप्राप्नोति दुःखं पुरुषः कुमारः।तत्त्वं प्रजानन् जहि मां न वालीदुःखं ममादर्शनजं भजेत।।
tvaṃ vettha yāvad vanitāvihīnaḥ prāpnoti duḥkhaṃ puruṣaḥ kumāraḥ | tattvaṃ prajānan jahi māṃ na vālī duḥkhaṃ mamādarśanajaṃ bhajet ||
你知道一个年轻人失去妻子时会遭受多大的痛苦。既然明白这个道理,就请杀了我吧,以免瓦利忍受因见不到我而产生的痛苦。
'You are aware of the grief of a young man separated from his wife. Kill me so that I can go to Vali. Let not Vali experience the sorrow of not seeing me.
Dharma is argued through compassion and experiential knowledge: one should act to prevent needless suffering when one understands it.
Tārā presses Rāma to end her life so that Vāli will not suffer separation from her.
Rāma’s presumed capacity for empathy—because he too knows separation (from Sītā).
