Tara’s Counsel to Vali on Sugriva’s Roar and Rama’s Alliance
śrutvā tu tasya ninadaṃ sarvabhūtaprakampanam | madaś caikapade naṣṭaḥ krodhaś cāpatito mahān ||
The roar (of Sugriva) that frightened all beings gave Vali's vanity a jolt and at once aroused in him violent rage.
Unchecked anger clouds dharma: the verse shows how sudden rage can replace reason, pushing one toward harmful action.
Sugrīva’s thunderous challenge is heard; Vāli’s emotional state shifts immediately into intense anger.
By contrast, the need for self-control (dama): the verse highlights the danger when it is absent.
