The Dundubhi Episode and the Proof of Rama’s Prowess
मितं व्यक्ताक्षरपदं तमुवाचाथ दुन्दुभिम्।हरीणामीश्वरो वाली सर्वेषां वनचारिणाम्4.11.29।।
mitaṃ vyaktākṣara-padaṃ tam uvāca atha dundubhim |
harīṇām īśvaro vālī sarveṣāṃ vana-cāriṇām || 4.11.29 ||
于是,婆梨——群猴之主、诸林行者之王——以寥寥数语对杜恩杜毗说道,字音分明,义理清晰。
'Unable to tolerate the sound, Vali jumped out of the harem along with the women like the Moon with stars.
Dharma in speech is emphasized: a ruler’s words should be measured, clear, and purposeful—avoiding impulsive, harmful talk even amid provocation.
After coming out, Vali prepares to address the challenger Dundubhi, and the narration highlights the manner of his speech.
