罗摩啊,我已向你详尽叙述了关于山之女的缘起。如今你与罗什曼那一同,再听我讲述恒河(伽ṅ伽)的起源。
"O Rama! this story of the daughter of the mountain has been narrated to you. Now listen with Lakshmana the tale of the birth of Ganga":ityārṣē śrīmadrāmāyaṇē vālmīkīya ādikāvyē bālakāṇḍē ṣaṭtriṅśassarga:৷৷Thus ends the thirtysixth sarga of Balakanda of the holy Ramayana the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
It affirms the dharmic method of transmission: sacred knowledge is received through attentive listening (śravaṇa) and truthful narration (satya) from a qualified teacher.
Viśvāmitra closes the Uma-related episode and signals the next topic: the origin story of Gaṅgā, instructing Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa to listen.
Śiṣya-dharma—reverent attentiveness and readiness to learn—is emphasized in Rāma (and Lakṣmaṇa) as listeners.
