The Account of Tāṭakā and the Royal Duty to Protect
तां तु जातां विवर्धन्तीं रूपयौवनशालिनीम्।झर्झपुत्राय सुन्दाय ददौ भार्यां यशस्विनीम्।।।।
tāṃ tu jātāṃ vivardhantīṃ rūpayauvanaśālinīm |
jharjhaputrāya sundāya dadau bhāryāṃ yaśasvinīm ||
她既已诞生并渐渐长成,容貌与青春光耀动人;这位名闻的女子被许配为阇尔阇之子孙陀(Sunda)的妻。
As she grew up, glowing with youth and beauty she was given in marriage to Sunda, son of Jharjha.
The verse reflects the social dharma of marriage alliances shaping lineage and future outcomes—private unions can have public consequences.
Viśvāmitra narrates that Tāṭakā, upon reaching youth, was married to Sunda.
