The Search for Sītā at the Godāvarī
एवमुक्तस्तु रामेण लक्ष्मणः परवीरहा।।।।नदीं गोदावरीं रम्यां जगाम लघुविक्रमः।
evam uktas tu rāmeṇa lakṣmaṇaḥ paravīrahā | nadīṃ godāvarīṃ ramyāṃ jagāma laghuvikramaḥ ||
罗摩如此吩咐后,罗什曼那——诛灭敌方勇士者——以迅捷之步前往秀丽的戈达瓦丽河。
Lakshmana, destroyer of enemy-warriors, went to the beautiful river Godavari with quick steps following the instruction of Rama.
Dharma here is expressed as faithful service and disciplined obedience: Lakṣmaṇa promptly carries out Rāma’s directive without delay, embodying duty toward elders and righteous leadership.
In the forest episode of Araṇyakāṇḍa, after Rāma gives instructions, Lakṣmaṇa moves quickly toward the river Godāvarī as part of their immediate response to unfolding events.
