Winter Description and Reflection on Bharata’s Devotion
त्यक्त्वा राज्यं च मानं च भोगांश्च विविधान्बहून्।तपस्स्वी नियताहारश्शेते शीते महीतले।।।।
tyaktvā rājyaṃ ca mānaṃ ca bhogāṃś ca vividhān bahūn |
tapassvī niyatāhāraḥ śete śīte mahītale ||
他舍弃王位、荣誉与种种享乐;那位苦行者克制饮食,在寒冷中卧于裸露的大地之上。
Giving up his kingdom, honour and pleasures of many kinds, Bharata will be living like an ascetic, sleeping on the ground in cold weather, his food under restriction.
True dharma is not mere position but right intention: Bharata rejects comfort and status when they conflict with truth and rightful order, choosing austerity over indulgence.
Rama describes Bharata’s likely conduct in Ayodhya during Rama’s exile—living austerely as if an ascetic.
Tyāga (renunciation) and self-control—Bharata’s willingness to suffer rather than benefit from an unrighteous outcome.
