Educational Q&A

The verse highlights dhārmic speech and etiquette: agreeable, respectful words foster harmony and are fitting in royal dialogue. Yudhiṣṭhira models restraint and courtesy by commending pleasing speech rather than escalating tension.

In the Virāṭa context, Yudhiṣṭhira (in the Matsya court) responds to the Matsya king’s prior remarks. He again addresses the king and explicitly approves the king’s pleasing statement, maintaining diplomatic decorum.
