Virāṭa-parva Adhyāya 22 — Draupadī’s Abduction Attempt and Bhīma’s Suppression of the Kīcakas

bhīmasena uvāca—varārohe! tava svāgataṃ; yat tvayā me priyaḥ saṃvādaḥ śrāvitaḥ. sundari! asmin kārye ’ham anyaṃ kaṃcid api sahāyaṃ na icchāmi. yā me prītis tvayā ākhyātā kīcakasya samāgame, hatvā hiḍimbaṃ sā prītir mama āsīd varavarṇini.

Educational Q&A

When injustice threatens the vulnerable, righteous strength may be used decisively; Bhima frames his resolve as protective duty, refusing to dilute responsibility by involving others.

In the Virata court episode, Bhima responds to the lady’s message about arranging an encounter with Kichaka; he welcomes the news, insists on acting alone, and compares his present exhilaration to the triumph he felt after killing the rākṣasa Hidimba.
