Agastya–Lopāmudrā: Marriage, Austerity, and Conditions for Conjugal Union (लोमशकथितम्)
sikatā vā yathā loke yathā vā divi tārakāḥ | yathā vā varṣato dhārā asaṅkhyeyāḥ sama kenacit | tathā gaṇayituṃ śakyā gayayajñe na dakṣiṇāḥ ||
The verse teaches that righteous giving in a sacred rite can be so abundant that it becomes immeasurable—highlighting the dharmic ideal of generosity (dāna) and the exalted value of supporting ritual and its officiants through dakṣiṇā.
The speaker describes the scale of offerings at a sacrifice performed at Gayā, using cosmic and natural images (sand, stars, rain-streams) to convey that the dakṣiṇās distributed there were beyond anyone’s ability to count.
