Even when a message comes with divine authority, the listener’s autonomy is respected: Nala presents the gods’ intent yet explicitly leaves the final decision to her own will, highlighting ethical persuasion without coercion.
Nala explains that he has been dispatched by the chief gods as their envoy and, after delivering their message, invites the addressed woman (Damayantī in context) to decide freely according to her preference.
