Arjuna Honored in Indra’s Court; Lomāśa’s Audience; Indra’s Disclosure of Lineage and Mission
Book 3, Chapter 45
विदितस्ते<र्जुनो वीर: स स्वर्गफलमाप्नुयात् । त्वं तु शक्राभ्यनुज्ञाता तस्य पादान्तिकं व्रज । तदेवं कुरु कल्याणि प्रसन्नस्त्वां धनंजय:
viditas te 'rjuno vīraḥ sa svargaphalam āpnuyāt | tvaṃ tu śakrābhyanujñātā tasya pādāntikaṃ vraja | tad evaṃ kuru kalyāṇi prasannas tvāṃ dhanaṃjayaḥ |
毗舍ṃ波耶那说道:“阿周那,这位英雄,你早已知晓;他将得天界之果报。而你,既蒙释迦罗(因陀罗)允准,便去到他足下。如此行之,吉祥的女子啊:檀那ṃ阇耶(阿周那)必将悦纳于你。”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights that divine approval and humble approach matter in ethical action: even when a hero’s merit is assured, one should proceed with proper authorization (from Śakra) and with humility (going to the feet), aiming to win goodwill rather than force outcomes.
Vaiśaṃpāyana addresses an ‘auspicious lady,’ telling her that Arjuna is a renowned hero destined for heavenly reward, and instructs her—having Indra’s permission—to go to Arjuna and approach him respectfully at his feet, assuring that Arjuna will be pleased if she follows this course.
