असौ मन्ये न जानीते समयप्रतिपालनम् । कृतोपकारं मां नूनमवमन्याल्पया धिया,“मैं तो समझता हूँ, वह अपनी की हुई प्रतिज्ञाका पालन करना नहीं जानता और अपनी मन्दबुद्धिके कारण मुझ उपकारीकी भी वह निश्चय ही अवहेलना कर रहा है
asau manye na jānīte samaya-pratipālanam | kṛtopakāraṃ māṃ nūnam avamanyālpayā dhiyā ||
“我想那人不懂得遵守约定、守时践诺。确然,以他浅薄的心智,竟连我这施恩之人也一并轻慢。”
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
Dharma requires fidelity to one’s pledged word (samaya) and gratitude toward benefactors; breaking an agreement and slighting those who helped you is portrayed as moral failure rooted in poor discernment (alpa-dhī).
Mārkaṇḍeya criticizes a certain person’s conduct, judging that he neither upholds an agreed promise nor shows proper respect to Mārkaṇḍeya himself, despite having received (or been given) help—thus highlighting a breach of ethical obligation.
