The verse underscores the ethical danger of deception: by mimicking a trusted voice and invoking loved ones, a wrongdoer can manipulate dharmic impulses (care for family, readiness to help) into harmful action. It cautions that compassion must be paired with discernment.
As Mārīca is fatally struck by Rāma’s arrow, he deliberately cries out “O Sītā! O Lakṣmaṇa!” in an anguished tone resembling Rāma’s voice, intending to mislead Sītā and draw Lakṣmaṇa away—setting the stage for further calamity.
