Duryodhana’s Śaraṇāgati and the Pāṇḍavas’ Resolve
Gandharva Encounter
सम्पूज्यमानस्त्रिदशैरभिवाद्य महेश्वरम् । शुशुभे कृत्तिकापुत्र: प्रकीर्णाशुरिवांशुमान्,उस समय देवतालोग कृत्तिकानन्दन स्कन्ददेवकी स्तुति और पूजा करने लगे। कुमार स्कन्द अपने पिता महेश्वरको प्रणाम करके सब ओर किरणें बिखेरनेवाले अंशुमाली सूर्यकी भाँति शोभा पाने लगे
sampūjyamānas tridaśair abhivādya maheśvaram | śuśubhe kṛttikāputraḥ prakīrṇāśur ivāṃśumān ||
诸天以供奉与赞颂礼敬他时,奎提迦之子斯坎达先向大自在天摩诃湿伐罗(湿婆)俯首致敬。随后他光辉灿然,宛如烈日将万道光芒洒向四方。
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
Even when one is celebrated and worshipped, true greatness is shown by first offering reverence to the higher principle (here, Skanda honoring Śiva). Glory (śrī/tejas) is portrayed as arising from humility and right devotion, not from mere acclaim.
Mārkaṇḍeya describes the gods worshipping Skanda. Skanda then salutes Maheśvara (Śiva), and his splendor is compared to the sun spreading its rays, emphasizing his divine radiance and auspicious presence.
