Agni’s Withdrawal to the Forest and Identification with Āṅgirasa (अग्न्याङ्गिरस-इतिहासः)
बलाकां पतितां दृष्टवा गतसत्त्वामचेतनाम्,उस बगुलीको अचेत एवं निष्प्राण होकर पड़ी देख ब्राह्मणका हृदय दयासे द्रवित हो उठा। उसे अपने इस कुकृत्यपर पश्चात्ताप हुआ। वह इस प्रकार शोक प्रकट करता हुआ बोला--“'ओह! आज क्रोध और आसक्तिके वशीभूत होकर मैंने यह अनुचित कार्य कर डाला'
balākāṃ patitāṃ dṛṣṭvā gatasattvām acetanām | brāhmaṇasya hṛdayaṃ dayayā dravībhūtaṃ paścāttāpaṃ ca jagāma | sa śokam udīrayan uvāca— “aho! adya krodhāsaktivaśībhūto mayā anucitaṃ karma kṛtam” ||
马尔坎德耶说道：“见那苍鹭坠地，昏厥无知，宛如失了性命，那婆罗门心中顿起悲悯，柔软如融。为自身恶行所悔，他哀叹道：‘唉！今日我为嗔怒与执著所制，竟做下不当之事。’”
