न तारयति दातार ब्राह्मणं नैव नैव तु । एक गौ एक ही ब्राह्मणको देनी चाहिये; बहुतोंको कभी नहीं (क्योंकि एक ही गौ यदि बहुतोंको दी गयी, तो वे उसे बेचकर उसकी कीमत बाँट लेंगे)। दान की हुई गौ यदि बेच दी गयी, तो वह दाताकी तीन पीढ़ियोंको हानि पहुँचाती है। वह न तो दाताको ही पार उतारती है न ब्राह्मणको ही
na tārayati dātāraṁ brāhmaṇaṁ naiva naiva tu |
马尔坎德耶说道：“如此之施，并不能使施者与受施的婆罗门得以渡越（趋向功德解脱）——绝无此事。”其意在告诫：一头牛应当布施给一位婆罗门，不可分与多人；若将所施之牛卖出并分其价金，则布施之清净与神圣尽失，反而祸及施主家族，累及三代，既不能度施者，亦不能度受者。
