Āraṇyaka-parva Adhyāya 199: Dharmavyādha on Svakarma, Vidhi, and the Limits of Ahiṃsā
तांस्तथेत्युक्त्वा रथमारुरोह । अथ तेषामेक: सुरर्षि नारदमब्रवीत् । प्रसाद्य भगवन्तं किज्चिदिच्छेयं प्रष्टमिति,“तब नारदजी “तथास्तु” कहकर उस रथपर बैठ गये। तदनन्तर उनमेंसे एकने देवर्षि नारदसे कहा--“भगवन्! मैं आपको प्रसन्न करके कुछ पूछना चाहता हूँ
tāṁs tathety uktvā ratham āruroha | atha teṣām ekaḥ surarṣi-nāradam abravīt | prasādya bhagavantaṁ kiñcid iccheyaṁ praṣṭum iti |
毗湿摩波耶那说道:那罗陀答道“如是”,便登上战车。随后,他们之中一人对天仙圣者那罗陀说道:“尊者啊,我愿先求得您的欢喜,然后想请教一事。”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse models dhārmic conduct in seeking knowledge: one should approach a revered teacher respectfully, first seeking goodwill (prasāda) and permission before asking questions.
After agreeing (“tathā”) and mounting a chariot, a member of the group addresses the divine sage Nārada and expresses the desire to ask him a question, indicating a forthcoming instruction or counsel.
