The verse uses a cosmic catastrophe—multiple suns and universal fires—as a moral warning: when dharma erodes, suffering becomes all-pervasive and even the world’s sustaining forces (like the sun) appear as instruments of torment. It urges vigilance toward righteousness to prevent social and cosmic imbalance.
Mārkaṇḍeya describes terrifying omens of an end-time scenario: six additional suns arise alongside the usual sun, all seven burn together, thunderous roars are heard, and fires spread in every direction—an image of the world being scorched and destabilized.
