Nārāyaṇopadeśa to Mārkaṇḍeya (Cosmic Self-Identification and Yuga Doctrine) |

yo brāhmadeyāṁ tu dadāti kanyāṁ bhūmipradānaṁ ca karoti vipre | dadāti dānaṁ vidhinā ca yaś ca sa lokam āpnoti purandarasya ||

Educational Q&A

The verse teaches that dharmic giving—especially kanyā-dāna in the Brahma form, land-gift to a brāhmaṇa, and other donations performed according to proper rites—yields exalted merit culminating in attainment of Indra’s heavenly realm.

Mārkaṇḍeya is describing the karmic results of specific virtuous acts (forms of dāna). He lists exemplary donations and states their reward: reaching Purandara’s world, reinforcing a moral economy where righteous generosity leads to heavenly attainment.
