वैशम्पायन उवाच
Disrespect toward brāhmaṇas and sages is portrayed as adharma that invites severe consequences; the verse underscores moral causality (karma) and the felt force of destiny (daiva) when one’s wrongdoing ripens into suffering.
A speaker (within Vaiśampāyana’s narration) identifies himself as suffering a degraded condition caused by Agastya’s curse, explicitly linking his downfall to having insulted brāhmaṇas, and urges the listener to witness the evidence of his misfortune firsthand.
