Kṛṣṇasya asāṃnidhya-kāraṇaṃ — Śālva–Soubha-vṛttāntaḥ
Why Kṛṣṇa was absent; the Śālva and Saubha account
vāyudeva uvāca | hataṃ śrutvā mahābāho mayā śrautśravaṃ nṛpa | upāyād bharataśreṣṭha śālvo dvāravatīṃ purīm ||
The verse highlights the moral logic of cause and consequence in royal conduct: violent acts in the kṣatriya sphere often provoke retaliation, drawing kingdoms into further conflict and testing a ruler’s responsibility to protect subjects.
Vāyudeva reports to the king that after Śrautśrava was killed by him, King Śālva, upon hearing the news, mobilized and advanced to attack the city of Dvāravatī (Dvārakā).
