The Convergence of Armies
Vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca: ājagmuḥ pṛthivīpālāḥ kampayanta ivācalān | Jayadrathādayo 'nye rājānaḥ Sindhu-Sauvīradeśa-nivāsinaḥ parvatān kampayanta iva Duryodhanam upāgaman |
The verse highlights how the accumulation of political power and alliances can intensify adharma-driven ambition, creating an unstoppable momentum toward war; it implicitly cautions that might and numbers do not equal righteousness.
Jayadratha and other kings from Sindhu and Sauvīra arrive to join/meet Duryodhana, their grand approach described hyperbolically as if it makes mountains tremble—signaling the consolidation of Kaurava support.
